Is information shared beyond our parish?

Safeguarding Hub can share information with other people or organisations within the Church of England.

For example, this information could help your diocese:

  • To monitor compliance with safeguarding requirements.
  • To provide better support for you and other parishes.
  • To promote the mission and ministry of the Church of England.

This might involve the sharing of both personal and non-personal data.

Sharing non-personal data

Your PCC has no control over the sharing of non-personal data from your Safeguarding Hub.

For example, your diocese can see the number (but not the names) of people that need to complete some safeguarding training during the next 12 months - or how many DBS checks are overdue. This statistical data could help your diocesan safeguarding team to monitor compliance throughout the diocese, and to identify parishes that need more support.

Your diocese also has access to any Role Descriptions and Person Specifications that you have created.  This could help them to answer any questions that you might ask them about specific roles.

Sharing personal data

In 2025, your PCC will have full control over the sharing of personal data via your Safeguarding Hub.  This control will be exercised via data sharing settings that will only be available to the Hub Owner on behalf of the PCC.

For example, if your parish is being audited by the diocesan safeguarding team, the PCC may grant the auditors temporary access to all personal data that is stored in your Safeguarding Hub.

There must always be a valid lawful basis for sharing personal data with others.
